Week 8(1)

We will make it quick..today we learn about how to write compare and contrast essay...Compare and contrast essays are the other big essay types in academic writing. A comparison shows how two subject are similar; a contrast shows how to subject are different. People compare and contrast in both writing and life. In writing, you must first decide whether you will compare, contrast or both.

Here is the explanation of how to write the compare and contrast essay.

Introduction-      The introduction must have a hook to attract the attention of the reader to read your  essay. Besides, it also must contain quotation, statistic or any facts that can make your reader enjoy reading your essay. Don’t forget about the thesis statement.

Body paragraph-  Difference 1, with topic sentence
Difference 2, with topic sentence
Similarity with topic sentence

Conclusion-         Summarising the main ideas or restating the thesis statement.

Week 7(3)

Before this we learn about how to write the introductory paragraph...now we learn on how to write the conclusion....

Here is some explanation from Miss Zu about the conclusion paragraph...
-The first sentence is the restatement of the writer’s point of view.
-The second and third sentences are a summary of main ideas.
-The fourth while sentence is the final comment that “rounds off” the paper thus, bring the discussion to a close.
-Don’t use the exact wordings you have in the introduction.

You can also put some question and suggestion or opinion on your concluding paragraph to make it better...

Here is a brief list of things that you might accomplish in your concluding paragraph(s).* There are certainly other things that you can do, and you certainly don't want to do all these things. They're only suggestions:
  • include a brief summary of the paper's main points.
  • ask a provocative question.
  • use a quotation.
  • evoke a vivid image.
  • call for some sort of action.
  • end with a warning.
  • universalize (compare to other situations).
  • suggest results or consequences.

Week 7(2)

Today miss zu want to teach us about how to write cause and effect but with her own way....she divide us into 5 group.....then she show us a video and ask us to write cause and effect essay based on the video....
In this kind of essay, the aim is to explain the causes (reasons) or the effects (results) of an event or situation. I think this type of essay is the easier one compare to other.

Here is a little bit guide...

  • 1-Present an event, phenomenon or trend. This will be the cause and the starting point of your essay. You should explain the background of the cause in significant detail so your reader understands the basis of your paper.
  • 2-Explain the effects of your event, phenomenon or trend. You should continually refer back to the cause to make links and connections between the cause and effect. Links and connections will help your audience effectively process the cause and effect.

  • 3-Limit your major points. While there may be multiple causes or multiple effects in any given relationship, limit your points depending on the length of your essay. Too many points will only confuse your reader.

  • 4-Organize your essay effectively. A good model to follow is a thesis statement that presents your event, phenomenon or trend at the beginning of the essay. Each subsequent body paragraph should start with a topic sentence that explains the cause or effect up for discussion.
  • 5-End with a recap of the causes and effects discussed in your essay. In complicated essays like cause and effect, it's important to revisit the major points and the overall idea of your essay so the reader can tie together your thoughts.

    Week 6(3)

Do you know what is thesis statement???....
Today we will learn how to make thesis statement....do you know what is thesis statement???

A Thesis statement, in essays, is a single line which clarifies the main argument for the rest of the essay. The thesis statement is usually found at the end of the first paragraph of an essay or similar document and summarizes the main point and perspective of the writer. The main function of a thesis statement is to introduce the reader to the purpose of the document and outline the major topics that will be covered to achieve that purpose. The thesis statement must then be referred to in the conclusion of the essay, as the author must then balance the multiple perspectives presented in the argument: which side of the argument is stronger and how does this enhace the reader's understanding of the debate? If the main argument of the essay in unclear, then the thesis statement is badly written.

If you want to read an example of thesis statement....here is my thesis statement....

There is no doubt that smoking Hookah is as addictive as smoking cigarettes and it usually affects smokers prominently on their health condition, consequently, this implication might be caused by several reasons not only due to peer influence but as well as appealing characteristics and easy accessibility of  Hookah materials.

For example, one synonym of sad is "gloomy" however, this word carries quite a negative connotation. Depending on the circumstance you can use it, but if you just want to say that someone is "down," then another synonym such as "blue" or "unhappy" would be more applicable.

According to Miss Zu, a fact is something that is true about a subject that can be proven or something that actually happened.
